Touch ID is grayed out.

The option to use Touch ID on my iMac 24 with the wireless keyboard is grayed out. It was working fine until I returned home after a three week trip and now can't get it to work. I have the latest version of OS Ventura 13.5.1 and the problem may have started after the recent upgrade.

Connect the Apple Touch ID configured Keyboard Directly to the computer using the Apple Supplied Cable.

Make sure the Keyboard is Turned ON via the slider on the Keyboard

Does the Touch ID in System Setting reappear ?

On the off chance it does not and while still cabled to computer

Turn Off the Keyboard and pause 3 - 5 seconds.

Turn the Keyboard back ON via the slider switch
