iPhone battery charging process

How do I get my iPhone (11) to start charging the battery if it no longer works automatically when I plug in the charging cable? Even with 21% remaining capacity, the charging process is not triggered even after about an hour of connection to the mains (or after "nervously" plugging off/on)! It only works sporadically and that's annoying.

This is exactly what my iPhone did for a long time being. But not since a few days, so I am a bit irritated, and longed for a clue. But thanks for your replies!

I can't find in the settings how to advise to charge even if capacity is above 20 %; so the automatism has to be in proper function – if not, alas, there is a problem, you see. With modern electric devices, sometimes there are such problems hard to solve, you can't fix it with a screw driver, haha!
