Icloud backups

The thing is that iCloud storage may be full but your iPhone still has storage space available right? Your GMAIL app will still work even if the iCloud Storage is full. The GMAIL app just won’t backup data to iCloud. If you do not wish to upgrade the storage space on iCloud, then you can simply turn GMAIL OFF for iCloud as you were initially talking about.

Nothing happens as far as the performance of your iPhone and the app is concerned. You just won’t have those apps and the respective data backed up to iCloud. This means that if you have to ever restore your iPhone from an iCloud backup, then the data related to those apps will not be restored because that data will not be on iCloud.
