When using your Apple ID, if you are getting a notification that your account is locked, you will need to follow one of these two steps in If your Apple ID is locked or disabled depending on what exact the message says:


1. "If your account has been disabled for security reasons


If you see one of the following messages, your Apple ID automatically locked to protect your security and you can't sign in to any Apple services:

    • “This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons”
    • "You can't sign in because your account was disabled for security reasons"
    • "This Apple ID has been locked for security reasons"

You need to reset your password to regain access. Learn how to reset your password. "


2. "If your account has been disabled in the App Store and iTunes Store


If you see a message that says your account has been disabled in the App Store and iTunes Store, contact Apple Support for help. "

If your Apple ID (not your local user account) is locked, see BDAqua's answer.


If your Mac has the T2 Security Chip or an Apple silicon chip (M1 and later), and a wrong password is entered several times just after a reboot, your Mac might temporarily lock out your user account. To fix this, reset your login password: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT212190
