Midi Transform - Logic always selects ALL notes/events

I'm in the piano roll, trying to randomize the velocity on a steady kick drum so that it sounds more natural.

I highlight just the kick drum notes and choose "random velocity" and make sure I choose "apply operations to selected events". I change the high and low values and then click "select and operate"....and then the random velocity proceeds to alter ALL the notes in my grid. I have tried this half a dozen times and still the same thing happens.

Anyone have a suggestion? What I am doing incorrectly?
