The phone comes with a C to C cable, but much of the world, hotels, planes, cars still only have USB ports. Can they charge an iPhone Pro Max? Does Apple make a cable for this purpose? I couldn’t find one. Does some other manufacturer like Anker?

Yes, you can use a USB-A to USB-C cable. Anker, Griffin, and many other manufacturers make them; just get a good quality one, ideally that says “Made for iPhone” (MFI).
Yes, you can use a USB A to USB C Cable. But you might want also to buy yourself a USB C Charging plug. The Anker Nano 20w Charging plug is like $14 at amazon.
Thank you all. I have an Anker USBC charging block. The problem is for situations where the charger is built in, trains, and planes, and such.
