iMac 2006 with op Lion 10.7.5, want to wipe hard drive completely before passing it on

Have original OS discs, so wipe hard drive first

than run apple diagnostics to insure info gone

reset PRAM and the SMC

turn FileVault off

remove machine from list of my registered products


can than move unit along, include original OS discs with unit and be sure unit clean?

The answer is yes. What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support does not specifically address Macs that old, but comply with as much of it as you can.


As long as you include its original grey discs you don't have to perform Step 7.


If you set a Firmware Password, be sure to either disable it or provide that password to its new owner: Set a firmware password on your Mac - Apple Support
