In fact, your MacBook Pro 2019 can run the newest, latest release of macOS 14 Sonoma.

➡️ macOS 14 Sonoma is compatible with the Macs listed here

However, I would advise that you hold off upgrading to Sonoma because it is so newly released.

Instead, if you intend to upgrade, I suggest you go to macOS 13 Ventura. It has been out for a year and has received feedback and several point update improvements.

➡️ macOS 13 Ventura is compatible with the Macs listed here

❗️ Do NOT upgrade

…until you have made a Time Machine or other backup of your startup drive.

The last release of Catalina was version 10.15.7.

The macOS version you can upgrade to depends on the year your Mac was released.

Click the  (Apple) menu at the top of your screen and choose About This Mac.

Check the Compatibility of your Mac with newer versions of macOS:

➡️ macOS 10.15 Catalina is compatible with the Macs listed here

➡️ macOS 11 Big Sur is compatible with the Macs listed here

➡️ macOS 12 Monterey is compatible with the Macs listed here
