My Apple Pencil is not changing on my iPad, which is charged at 100%. I learned that it's bad for your Pencil to stay dead, I'm at 1% and not able to write with it. It attaches magnetically to the side of the iPad and charges for a couple seconds then no further charging. I've cleaned the iPad with no resolve. Can this be fixed?

I found this thread because I had the same issue of my pencil not being charged.
Theres a much easier way to fix this without having to do a hard reset.
Your pencil will show as charging/charged again.
I was stuck at 0%. When mag attach, says Apple Pencil, then says 0% with lightning symbol, but never charges. Tried forget device in Bluetooth. Tried power cycle iPad. Same result. Then I tapped the screen with the pencil and it worked. Suddenly showing 1% battery status. Magnetically attach, boom 2% within seconds. Using the pencil on the iPad may be the hidden step people are taking without realizing what suddenly fixed it.
Specifically, I tapped something the Bluetooth settings menu from the drag from top right corner type menu. Probably doesn’t matter what you tap specifically.
TLDR:
try 3 step method:
1) forget device in Bluetooth settings, then magnetically attach
2) power cycle iPad with pencil removed, then magnetically attach
3) tap anywhere on the screen with iPad unlocked, then magnetically attach
Forgetting the device in bluetooth snd re-pairing worked gor me and I am a real person!
Hard reset worked like a charm. Pencil immediately was recognized and was fully charged. I also realized the Magic Keyboard has been very sensitive and touchy lately. That was also instantly fixed by the hard reset.
I have a brand new Apple Pencil 2 and a brand new iPad Pro 13" M4. I can connect the Apple Pencil via bluetooth to the iPad, and I can charge it when I connect it to the iPad with the usb-c cable. However, it will not charge when connected magnetically to the side of the iPad. In any orientation or placement that has it adhere. I've tried the hard reset to no avail. Is this an issue with the pencil or the iPad? Is there a solution or do I have to replace one or both?

Well that was amazing and quick. I picked up the pencil of the magnetic holder, clicked forget, waited two heartbeats, set it back on. The iPad connected to it and saw it had a 100% battery.

Sorry. Perhaps there’s a context this is true. Just not generally so. The solution of forgetting then reconnecting worked for me.

This was the most helpful response and actually worked. I had to plug my pencil into the tablet because even plugging it into a wall outlet didn't work.
