Forgot Apple ID password for iPad, how to reset it?

so basically I forgot the Apple ID password for my iPad and I’m trying to download an app so I’m trying to rest the password by hitting forgot password and when I put in my Apple ID it says cannot verify identity your action could not be completed because of a sever error Try again and every time I try again it still says the same thing and I don’t know how to fix it
