Verification Required App Store Loop (FIXED!)

I was one of the more than 2500 people who had that dreaded "Verification Required" app store loop where every time you try to download an app (free or paid), you're prompted to enter your password and then confirm or add a new payment method.

After completing that step, you're then asked to provide verification yet again which takes you through the same process without ever downloading the app. I searched for a resolution to this problem since October of 2023 (when I first started having the issue) and hadn't found one... until today!

After speaking with a rep at Apple, this issue is henceforth FIXED:

The issue is caused by a pending or unpaid App Store purchase and the process to resolve it that was given to me by the rep is HERE.

If you want the SIMPLE version:

Navigate to your Account Settings: Go to Settings > Your Name > Media & Purchases > View Account > Purchase History

  • Any purchase with red text is what is causing the trouble. For me, it was a pending in-app purchase.

To fix this you need to add money to your Apple Store account (this is different from your Apple Wallet or iTunes account).

You can use gift cards or other cards in your Apple Wallet to add the funds. I didn't have a gift card but I had the amount required already on my Apple Pay card (my default payment method).

  1. Navigate to Account Settings using the same steps as above, but instead of choosing Purchase History, choose Add Money to Account and choose the $25 option.
  2. Confirm using the side button. The $25 OR the money for the pending or unpaid purchase (if less than $25) will be deducted from the default payment method. Mine was $10.66 and I had $11 on my Apple Pay card, so that is what was paid.

NOTE: If the unpaid or pending purchase is less than $25, you may see a message indicating the payment has failed because it wasn't the full $25, this is to be expected.

This not only cleared the pending charge but allowed me to start downloading apps again without a problem. I was sure to tell Juan (the Apple rep I chatted with today) how appreciative I was for his help. If it helps you, pay it forward. All the best.

Every time I try to re-download an app it keeps asking me for a verification and when I put in the password, it keeps telling me to put in my billing information. I put it in and it always says the method is wrong or the card is already been used for this specific app and it’s not working and I am not able to re-download the app.

why I can’t download the website that I need to have in my phone. Is it crime? People to ask information ? I’m an old person not a criminal?

It requires a special utility built into a browser to download an entire web page. If you want to download an entire web site it could be huge. Are you thinking of downloading the entire Google web site? I doubt that will fit on your phone.

I can't think of any web page I absolutely "need" to have on anything. Sure it is convenient in situations, but web pages have gotten so complex that often downloading them omits critical data.

You're also talking about doing this on an iPhone. iPhones are good for certain things but they aren't computers. Downloading an entire web page to me is a job for a computer.

Finally, what does any of this have to do with the original question of the topic? ;-)

[ISSUE FIX worked for me]

For me there was no Pending Purchases as I have created a new Apple ID. But still I was facing the Issue.

Got it resolved by following below steps

  1. Signing out and Sign In back through Apple "Music" App.
  2. It again showed the similar Popup suggesting "Review your account".
  3. Filled in the required details and it worked fine.
  4. I was able to install apps from App Store.

Seems some issue with iOS while updating through App Store route. Try the Apple Music route, it should work

P.S - Any Payment Method configuration not required if you don't have any pending payments

Hey Meg, was stuck in this loop for ages. I had the money in my account but wasn’t withdrawing for some reason. when I put the amount owed in the App Store credit, it only then decided to withdraw it out of my bank account instead of the credit as if my bank account was a clogged toilet and the credit was the final purchase to flush the withdrawals back to apple. Now I have money I can’t refund and don’t need to use sitting in my AppStore credit and $0.2 in my bank account.
