iMac Pro screen went bad after my warranty expired.

I called the help desk when I saw some vertical lines on my screen and they advised me to update the MacOS to the latest version. Once I did that the screen went blank. I never got a picture. I called the help desk again 2 times and they told me to take it to the physical service center. That’s when they told me I needed a new screen. This is crazy. I hardly use this computer and paid over $2000 for it to die after a year. I purchased it through Apple online store and picked it up in person at the local store. Please advise
