How can I turn off Stolen Device Protection if Face ID is not working?

Hi GM, since 2 or 3 days my FACE ID suddenly stopped working, i feel since i activated Stolen Device Protection my face id isn't working.

I am unable to even Reset Face ID since it is not recognizing my face ID.

Due to this i am facing lot of difficulties to access my banking applications.

"Remove This Device" on iCloud gives

"Cannot Remove iPhone. Prepare It for Repair or Trade In?

This iPhone is linked to your Apple Account and cannot be removed while it is online, but you can still prepare it for repair or trade in."

I turned off the iPhone for several minutes, and then was able to use Remove This Device; iCloud's going to keep a handle on it for 30 days.

I powered up the iPhone, and went to Stolen Device Protection, to turn it off. It tried twice on FaceId, then asked for the iPhone passcode. It accepted the code, and showed SDP as Off.

FaceID still doesn't work for login. I rebooted, and still not working for login or for apps.

I reset FaceId, and started 'Set Up Face Id'. The camera gets to 'Position your face in the frame', fails over to 'Reposition your face in the frame, your face is out of view', and sits there. Restarting the phone doesn't help with that.

So, I'll go look for a thread about resetting FaceId, but at least I've turned off Stolen Device Protection, for which I thank you.

Hi, same problem - Face ID stopped working all of a sudden, but I cannot reset the Face ID or add alternate appearance or change any settings because Stolen Device Protection is ON and therefore I am required to use Face ID for any change, but Face ID is not working. I cannot turn the Stolen Device Protection off, since I would need to use Face ID that doesn't work. I cannot access passcodes nor banking apps. I have tried to clean the display, turning the phone off and back on, updating software, removed screen protector etc. nothing worked. Has anyone fixed this problem? thanks much

Update: Face ID works on and off therefore I assume it is a hardware issue with the True Depth Camera, anyways I have been lucky and turned off the Stolen Device Protection while the Face ID worked (there was a security delay of 1 hr and I was again asked for Face ID but luckily it worked at that time, now not working again). I will have to have the phone checked at a store now

Guess Ill just add my name to the list of very unsatisfied apple users. iPhone 14 here.  Every once in a while, the Face ID will quit recognizing me and I simply reset it. No issues. However, this time my Stolen Device Protection is turned on and now it doesn’t let me reset without turning that feature off. Well guess what? The device will not let me turn it off without facial recognition working! So I am currently unable to simply reset my Face ID at all.  Sure, I can use my security code with no issues to enter apps but whats going on? The extra security of Stolen Device Protection has me locked out because of failure and inability to reset my ID.  Yes I tried restarting several times and the software is current.

Happened to my yesterday I used the Face ID as usual then I play games with my friend for 2hrs after I was done I came back to use an app that requires my face to open but the Face ID didn’t even scan my face…..like it’s not sending any message or showing any animation of it scanning and failing….like it can’t activate I’m using an iPhone 12 Pro and the iOS is 18.5….i can’t reset Face ID too because stolen phone protection is on and to turn that off it’s asking for the Face ID that’s not functional……what is happening apple?

MrHoffMan this procedure no longer works. It doesn’t remove the device from Find My but rather puts it in a trade or repair state.

This isn’t working?

Interesting.

I attempted it the other day. Perhaps the device has to be offline (wiped) before it can be removed because if it's online (setup) it will not remove? We have some investigating to do. But then SDP is preserved in a backup.. And removing from the Find My app on iPhone doesn't work as SDP will remain.
