How to recover disappeared Photos on my iPhone?

I went to forward some photos to a friend today and hundreds of my photos have disappeared. I have a few photos from last week and then only photos from November 2023. The problem is that I also have 400 photos from my brother's wedding that I am in the process of editing and those have all disappeared. I have checked recently deleted and hidden (which are empty) and my iCloud account mirrors what is on the phone, which doesn't make sense. I don't understand what might have happened as all the photos were there at the weekend. Can anyone help?

Recovered: I installed Apple devices and iExplorer on my PC. Took a backup of my phone. Used iExplorer to open the backup and was able to restore the photos and videos using the free version. They still don’t show up on the phone.

Sorry to hear that. They told me that’s they keep 30 days in the deleted file. And after that’s they cannot do anything. Unfortunately in this case we never deleted. They cannot help. I’m considering searching form a company call data recovery, which is very expensive and not sure if that’s is safe. Again I’m sorry to hear about that’s . It’s very disappointing about Apple and ver expensive phones .

That is completely inaccurate. If you purchase 2TB of icloud service you have that much space on an Apple server and that is where your photos reside. They don't if you choose not to save them to the cloud or you do not purchase or have enough space. But if you select save and have the space, they absolutely reside on an apple server.

That is just a silly comment.

I'm utterly devastated. Lost 9 years worth of photos into thin air. No explanation. As far as I know, I haven't done anything (downloaded a 3rd party app, etc.) or deleted anything and just noticed that everything from 2015 - August 2024 is gone - on the cloud and on my phone. That's my kids growing up. The problem, judging by all the recent posts, seems to be with Apple. Tech person could not help and he escalated to engineers, but I'm not hopeful. I pay so much for Apples hardware, services, etc. for reliability, safety, and accountability. What do I get? No explanations, solution or compensation. Just oops and a shoulder shrug. Thousands and thousands of memories...It feels like a weird and unexpected violation. Like somebody hit me over the head and I lost 9 years of memories. Catastrophic. Devastating. Bigger problems in the world to be sure, but really feeling the pain of this right now.

Very sorry to hear. This seems to be the M.O of Apple Support/Engineering. They don't even acknowledge there is an issue ("We haven't heard about this"), which is incredible because there is a long-term issue here. I've known and epxerienced this for 10 years, at least. Photos dissolving into the ether. You only find out when you go look for something. No backup.

Apple needs to hold themselves accountable or get out of the photo storage business.

My phone needed to be replaced with AppleCare too I bought the extra cloud space and backed up all my data at least I thought. Then they replaced my phone. I just realized ten days later that more that 3/4 of my photos are gone. They never got backed up. I called apple support and they are no help the dude was even rude on the phone. I lost the all the pictures from the first year of my daughters life. I am so sad. Anyone able to fix this issue or am I just out of luck?

I just noticed I’ve lost everything from June 30- August 8, 2024. I have documented SO much this summer and it’s all gone without a trace. Nothing in recently deleted. Wtf. Thank god I had one weekend uploaded to whatsapp but I made so many memories in July, and they are all gone. So very upset. This might be the thing that finally makes me leave Apple. Been an iphoner since iphone 4.

I can seen to find about 12 years of photos from my phone and cloud it’s like someone got into my cloud and erase most of my most important moment and best photos, plus apple also eliminated my apple Id and did not returned my movies that where very expensive and I purchased through that account, now all my family history is gone so much money to pay for cloud storage for them to erase what I paid for!

Remember: iCloud is not a backup service. It is a transfer service. You need to backup all information in separate places. If you are on Mac, then definitely use Time Machine. However, also conduct regular (monthly or bi-annually) backups on a hard drive.

Apple deletes photos without any sense or reason. They say they don't know about this issue but it is rampant. It has happened to me several times over the last decade, including a few months ago. I am a high-level user. When I talk with Apple they deny; go to the discussion groups and you find it around the globe.

Hello Dear apple users

We have over 600 conversations addressing the same issue. Are we planning to take any action? I haven't seen any response from Apple. When I contacted Apple support, I was told that this problem is my responsibility, not theirs. How can we ensure this doesn't happen again? Considering the number of photos involved, we are talking about millions of lost memories, and yet no one at Apple is held accountable. Does that make sense?
