Managed iPad asking for "Old Passcode", no way around this, even on managed logins and devices.
We have a managed iPad that a student forgot their iPad unlock passcode to get on it.
They then turned the iPad off, then on.
That action removed Wifi, so now all our commands from the managed system can not be sent to it. Nice one Apple!
We "Restored" the iPad via Apple Configurator 2. This worked.
The student could not remember their Apple ID password.
We reset this in Apple School Manager.
When the pupil clicks Settings and adds their Apple ID and password to the device, it asks for their old passcode to continue. It is a 6 digit number. We use 4 digit passcodes so can not get past this bit.
The student logged into icloud.com with their Apple ID and newly created (via ASM) 4 digit passcode. We had to provide an ASM Verification Code at this point. This worked. All their data is visible in iCloud.com once signed in. They reset their Apple ID password in here in the hopes it will remove the prompt asking for their old passcode on the iPad.
Back to the iPad, the student signs into Apple ID using their new password. It then immediately asks for their old passcode again!
This is frustrating! How can we get past this prompt asking for an old passcode that the pupil does not know and does not have another device. This is a managed iPad, we can't seem to manage it and remove this request. Like I said, they can login to iCloud using their Apple ID, but not the iPad.
The iPad Apple ID login now offers the option of erasing all their data on iCloud.com to get past the forgotten old passcode. They have access to this data via their Apple ID and Password so obviously do not want it deleted.
Any help would be much appreciated as we are going in circles on this one trying to log in to their managed iPad with a valid Apple ID and password.
