Unknown PowerBook Duo

This one is a PowerBook Duo that has a color screen and the serial number NH6230702XG. It has a smooth top and a textured bottom and a white latch. The top case is similar to a prototype model. It has a white latch instead of grey. The board is a 2300c board and the case is suspected to be similar to a 270 or 280c.

Hi,

The PowerBook Duo 2300 upgrade kit allowed a 210, 230, 250, 270c, 280 and 280c to use a 2300c logic board. The kit included a new case bottom and many other parts (also a PowerPC label), but not a trackpad (the top case/display for the model in question would be re-used). Details were available in a PowerBook 200 series service manual.

Is it possible that a broken latch has been replaced by some kind of third-party product in your Duo?

The mystery grows. Apple used the M7777 moniker from 1993 to 1997. From the MacTracker database:

Generally that indicates a "form factor" which usually relates to the physical case design, but the 2300 does not have a trackball.

Does it run?

Unfortunately, my deep-dive into PowerBooks did not start until the G3 Series, and our mage of old PowerBooks has been absent from the forums for about 5 years and we have no way to contact him. I'm at a loss. I will send up the "Bat Signal" for other long-serving members to take a look at your post.

I see this one scraped off the web—

Some mixed details for older mac portables, similar and maybe different

can be found among LowEndMac site pages; faded contents are lost tho.

Such as

Charles Moore had written articles across webs; few were archived.

Perhaps some on topic-bits were saved into web.archive site pages.

I've been though a lot of images of older PowerBooks regarding this question. I cannot find one that has the small screen AND PowerPC on the bezel and no trackball.

I get "not found" when I web-search the serial number. If you found the serial number on the case, please post ay other model info that shows on the sticker or stamp that bore the serial number. Numbers starting with "M" are useful for model ID (ex.: M4880).
