Print pages or Write/annotate in Apple Books

In the Apple Books app I bought a book that turned out to be a workbook in which I need to write answers to some questions but I cannot print or annotate with Apple Pencil in an Apple book. I think it’s copy right or protected in a way where I cannot even annotate it! I can’t use this book. I can’t even write in it? Do I need to get a refund?
