My iCloud Drive files often disappear.
The symptoms are:
It seems that iCloud is not a reliable service since there is no version control and, therefore, no way to recover the files.
Please, Apple must solve this issue. I spent so much time preparing my course materials and don't know why or when they will disappear.

Files are deleted only when you act upon them. You can always restore From your Time Machine (or similar) backup.
