Deleting pdf and epubs from iCloud/ files app without removing from the books app

I have ePubs and pdfs downloaded and I used them on the books app. My iCloud is almost full and have realised a majority of the files on my mac - especially in the downloads folder- are these books. I want to delete them from the files app to free up space. If I were to delete the pdfs from the downloads section of the files as shown below - would this delete the books from the Apple Books app? Essentially could I delete them from my files (as shown below) without removing them from the books app.
