Hello,
I have an issue with many folders appearing empty on my desktop. I have iCloud sync enabled for desktop and documents. The files do appear on iCloud Drive when I visit it via my browser, but on my actual desktop they are gone.
I have some really precious files on there, it is quite shocking that they can just disappear like that!

It sounds as if you may have turned off desktop and documents at some point. Navigate to finder and you can drag the files back from iCloud Drive to your desktop and documents locations
