I received a text stating my Apple ID was used to sign into icloud on an IMac at Apple Store from Chicago for 138.95 via a preauthorization hold with ApplePay. it states that the requests have been paused until I contact them at 1-850-988-6834. (I don't use apple pay and I'm not anywhere near Chicago.)

I am pretty sure this is a scam/spam text and I can ignore it, however, I wanted to be sure it wasn't a legitimate message from Apple.

I get garbage like this all the time! I can't count the number of times my iCloud account has gone over the storage limit according to emails I get, like this email:

I love this part:

I'm a bit surprised about your getting a text-- mine are usually email. If it's an email, you can click on the little down arrow looking thing next to the sender's "name" and see how suspicious you should be. This one seems to be from someone in Germany! If the sender makes no sense, DON'T CLICK ON ANYTHING! It's OK to open the email or to look at the text, but links saying they are to "Apple" or "Free 50 GB" really link to somewhere you don't want to be.

I also get lots of these saying that my UPS shipment has been delayed, "click to see details." If they send enough of those things out, they're certain to hit someone who is expecting something. It's crazy out there...
