Once I move PDFs into the Books app I can no longer edit them

I can't edit PDF documents if i put them in books, it always gives me alert message and makes a duplicate for me, but the duplicate created cannot be edit either if saved in books. I am 100 percent sure it's not a permission issue b/c i can edit all the PDFs when they are on desktop. what's the frikin difference???
