Logic Pro 9 no longer accepting MIDI recording

IOS 1.9.5

LOGIC 9.1.8 (1700.67) (32-BIT)

My Logic has suddenly stopped recording MIDI. The Problem started when I connected a Roland piano to record a performance. So when I got home I connected my Yamaha SO3 which I have used for years to record MIDI in, (after some initial problems with the EDIROlL UA 25 driver). It has been stable for years but I can't persuade it to record now. Midi takes folder is checked. Record results in the red bar at the top but no take recording appears in the selected MIDI track and there is no sound. I tried re installing the driver. Sadly the DAW is useless to me without this functionality.

I don't use the Macbook on the net it is wifi off and used just a recording studio. At least it was until a few weeks ago.

I never upgraded because I bought Logic 9 a year before X and there was no upgrade price just full price. It has been fine until the Roland piano connected and recording stopped working.

What do I do to enable MIDI recording again ?
