I CAN'T SAVE GAME CENTER NICKNAME 😞

I entered the Game Center on the Settings app to change my nickname. I selected the tab with the word "nickname" and clicked the X to clear out my current nickname, which was also the default "Player_123..."

Then, I keyed in my desirable username and clicked "done". I ASSUMED it would save, but it then reset to the same boring username...

I tried multiple (more than two) times but to no avail. I researched up on this problem and APPARENTLY you need to sign out and shut down - things like that. (Said by an "Apple Community Specialist") , but NONE of it worked. I seriously don't know what to do. 😡 Please fix this or tell me what to do. Does anybody have the same horrible experience?
