How do I export my Notes data from my Mexico Apple ID and import to my US Apple ID

There needs to be a way to export all our notes data without doing it one by one, similar to Google Takeout. Otherwise you are engaging in a dark pattern, essentially holding us hostage.

I moved from Mexico to the US and because the app stores are geofenced, I was forced to create a new apple ID in order to buy apps that work in the US (another instance of the same problem). I can't export my Notes data from my Mexico Apple id and re-import to my US Apple ID because you seem to have made it difficult, maybe even on purpose?

Unless perhaps I am mis-informed? I hope so.

You know, I didn't do this, and I don't see how anybody here could have. This is a discussion forum for users of Apple's stuff, and we're all just users like you. Some of us hang around here from time to time in case our experience may help someone. We don't get paid and we don't have a schedule, and we don't make people suffer on purpose.

Do you keep Time Machine backups? This would be the ideal way to recovery your information.

I know that international commerce is complicated, and I sympathize with your problem. If "Optimize Storage" is not chosen in Settings, then most data in iCloud is also on the Mac. Might your Notes data be stored locally under your Mexican ID? I did a Google search and found this article:

https://osxdaily.com/2020/01/15/where-notes-stored-locally-mac/

which discusses where the data used by Notes is stored. Maybe you can recover it. There is also information there about where data is stored at iCloud. I don't know if it's all correct, but it may be worth checking out.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Richard. I'm not angry at you. I will try what you've suggested.

I feel that Apple has made some intentional choices here which make sense from their financial best interests, but leave us users frustrated.

Geofencing their app stores is something that gives Apple control of their ecosystem in a way that is very convenient for them and makes them a lot of money. But for instance, I bought some expensive Pro apple software with my Mexico id I can't transfer to my US id. If I change the country on that ID, I lose all the software I bought in the other App Store. My notes are also trapped in that ID. It's just not good experience design.

The industry standard is for companies (except Apple?) to provide a way to migrate data when needed, even to rival software companies.

It makes me sad that it would seem that our best recourse to go to when something goes wrong with Apple software is to rely on other users and forums. Other software companies have paid staff reading the comments in their forums and providing official responses. I thought Apple did as well.

I apologize for my tone. Thanks for your help. I'll reply with an update after I try your suggestion.

Well, sadly I couldn't just backup, and restore my Mexican id's notes folder to replace the US one, even after unlinking Notes from iCloud. I had copied the contents of the folder into a zip file and then logged out. The log-out process deleted all the notes. Putting the files back from my zip file backup didn't make them re-appear. The database apparently stores the owner of those notes. I also tried to import the notes from the Notes file menu, to no avail.

I will see if I can get a refund for my app purchases with the Mexican store, and re-buy the software on the US id. Logic Pro X, MainStage, Final Cut Pro, are just a few of the apps. Otherwise I will continue to have to use both ids, as I am currently.

thanks for your help.
