Can not Airplay from Superdrive / MacBook Air (M3 2024) to Home Pod Mini speakers

-Popped a CD in SuperDrive (model A1379) which is connected to MacBook Air by USB adapter

-Music app opens

-Selected the Device/CD

-Selected Airplay button, then selected my "Living Room" home pods (set up as a pair)

-Pressed play but nothing happens.

It will play from the MacBook speakers.

Also tried directing it via Airplay to Apple TV, same result

Tried restarting MacBook Air, same result

Suggestions? Thanks very much.
