Syncing additional computer with iCloud Drive

A few months ago, I subscribed to iCloud+ and synced my laptop. At the time, and ignorant of the process, I did not sync my desktop. Tonight, when I realized that I just had to go into the iCloud Settings of the desktop to sync my Documents and Desktop folder, I did so.

A popup window on my desktop Mac then informed me that my Desktop folder was renamed "Desktop - <myDesktopName>" and placed in my iCloud-synced Desktop folder; and my Documents folder was renamed "Documents - <myDesktopName>, and placed in my iCloud-synced Documents folder. The popup also said that I could merge the folders anytime, but it didn't say how I could do this.

How can I do this?

Mac Studio, macOS 14.6
