Has there been a way to search iCloud?

I have put all my backup files for years into iCloud, but I still cannot find a way to search for a file. Now that I have terabytes of stored data this is becoming of limited value.

Mac Studio, macOS 14.6

I don't think I understand. What "target disk?" How does your search window differ from mine? Do you need to include a screenshot like mine?

Keep in mind that "iCloud Drive" is just a folder on your Mac. What's in that local folder is copied to iCloud and is available to other connected devices, and through the web at iCloud.com for when you aren't at your own computer. You can search "iCloud Drive" like any other folder.

Do you have "Optimize Storage" turned on at System Settings>Apple ID>iCloud? I don't.

Interesting. I did have Optimized Storage turned on, but I do not remember my doing it. I am using a relatively new computer and its performance has been odd, to say the least. There are times when it lags when I am only typing an email. Perhaps this is because of Optimized Storage? I will respond more thoroughly when I can later today, including screen shots, but I have an appointment to attend. Thanks enormously for your suggestion.

A new Mac Studio shouldn't lag. Do you have at least 20% of your hard drive free? (At least 10% free is recommended, but I'm for extra.) Since you're not using a laptop, you can add an external drive to help save space.

Also, if "Optimize" is turned on, then when you backup your Mac with Time Machine or however, then you are not actually backing up all your files. With plenty of space, I would not (and I do not) turn on "Optimize" on my Mac. I use "Optimize Storage" on my iPhone, since it has less storage space.
