iOS 18 Disable Video Looping in Photos App?

I have been looking everywhere with no luck but thought I would ask here. Is there any way to disable the auto-looping of videos in the Photos app in iOS18? After upgrading now if I play a video to auto-repeats in an endless loop until you stop it where in the past it would stop at the end of the video.

I dislike this feature since I often show others videos on my phone and find it very annoying that the video instantaneously loops back to the beginning when it finishes playing. Sometimes this makes it hard to tell for sure if the video has finished or looped and it's always a nuisance if I need to talk to the person about the video once it finishes playing, especially if it happens to be a video that's quiet for a few seconds at the end and I've forgotten to close the Photos app.

Just talked to apple support and currently in 18 you can't disable it, but he suggested I leave a comment here to have them change it back in future versions.

Maybe if we all do that, something might get done in the next version.

Couldn't agree more. I had a hard time finding my Favorites, had to search the community for how to do it. Then I had to figure out how to turn off "preview" in my photo library after I tried to show someone a photo and it had jumped to the next photo before she could see it.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of "Movie" view when I open a folder, as I accidentally clicked on "Movie" instead of "Photo" in a folder of my photo library, resulting in unwanted music playing in the middle of a meeting. Is there any way to hide that option?

iPhone 13. Video playback in iOS 18.1.1 is looped. In addition, the

video is saved in silent mode. Is the only option to wait for Apple to

respond? The situation is very frustrating. You can go crazy watching a

looping video. When Apple will be ready to do something to eliminate the

problems (looping and recording in silent mode). The video can be

listened to when I manually activate the crossed out speaker on the

screen, but I can't do anything about looping.

Agreed! Please either remove auto-looping replay on videos in the Photos app - or - add the ability to disable it. It is wholly annoying and useless. We use videos for audio during singing auditions and performances and to have to ask the moderator or audition manager to close out of the Photos app the second the song is over is ridiculous and not usually possible.

Everyone, manually update to iOS 18.2, apps, photos, and you can now toggle off video loop. I don’t know why I wasn’t prompted to update or why it didn’t automatically (per my setting). The prompt used to be very visible. Anyway I think it’s settings/top choice Apple account/General/software update and it’s there. We did it. Closure. cheers…!

I see that some have gotten 18.2 and claim there is a fix but I don't have 18.2 yet. This thread started in September and I didn't get 18 until a couple of weeks ago in December. I don't know how Apple decides who to update and when but I hope I don't have to wait months for a fix.

Apple releases the updates to everyone who has eligible hardware on the same day. The update was released yesterday. What time during the day it might have become available to you will depend on where in the world you live. I'm on the East Coast of the U.S., and it was early afternoon. For some reason, the update to Sequoia showed up later.

Hello~ If you have posted into a thread more than once or at all for that matter simply “unsubscribing” all preferences defeats the purpose of participating here. This is a known issue in these forums. I have found that tapping the bell at upper right then refreshing or browse (repeating) and coming back as many times as you have posted until the bell is no longer solid in color is a workaround. If you have posted 20 times then you have your work cut out for you until this issue is resolved.

I’ve had nothing but unwanted changes since I installed IOS 18 on my phone. Hate the video looping, don’t like the new photo format, and texting options like before. How can this be a good update? What’s worse is now that it’s installed, it shouldn’t be removed (as per Apple advisors) and it can’t be returned to former applications. Total disaster!
