Folder hosted on Icloud suddenly slow

Macbook pro m2 pro, bought it 1 year from now.

Now on Sequoia 15.0 but had this issue also on Sonoma.

The issue appear randomly, it has been months since I had the last but today I have it...

Issue description :

Suddenly, some folders (hosted on Icloud) become unresponsive and my Finder does not respond anymore. I repeat it only appear on Icloud folders and files. It's annoying because I have a few important folders on it for coding and I need to use it.

I've tried a few things, sometimes it worked. Like restarting and going into safe mode, turning off Icloud storage and starting again and turn Icloud storage ON again. -> While this might work sometimes (today it doesn't I don't know why), it's very frustrating because all the files are indexing again and it takes some times.

Anybody have any ideas on how I could solve something like this ?

Thanks and have a great day,

Noé

Do you have "Optimize Mac Storage" turned on?

Normally all files in iCloud Drive are on your Mac's internal drive. They are copied to iCloud.com for sharing, but they exist locally, and there should be no more delay than with any other file on your Mac. However, if you have Optimize turned on, and you have limited space on your internal drive, then some of those files will be kept off the internal drive to save space. You really don't have any control over which ones.

Except, in Sequoia, there is the option to keep a file local. Right clicking on a file in iCloud Drive will give options:

You can choose to "Keep Downloaded" so that the file stays local until you remove it. There is a new icon to represent this.

Of course, if you have limited space on your internal drive, you may not be able to download the file until others of been removed. Apple recommends that you keep at least 10% of your disk space free. It seems to me that I've had slowdowns at 10%, so I try to keep at least 20% free.
