how do I disable automatic window resizing in Sequoia

Since updating this morning when I move windows around on my cinematic display they JUMP to full screen if I even get close to the top of the screen. How do I make this STOP!

Thanks for confirming, @d.s.cobb! That's exactly the faulty behavior I had reported via Apple Feedback.

Here, it's a Mac Mini M2 Pro with a Dell UltraSharp 40" monitor (U4021QW). And that turned out to be the problem.

As suggested by Dell, I had installed Dell's DDPM software, and allowed it to open automatically on startup. That software has a feature called EasyArrange which allows, among other things, window tiling just like in Sequoia. I've never used it, though, and wasn't aware it was seemingly turned on (maybe it wasn't). For more than a year, it hasn't caused any issues.

Now that changed when updating to Sequoia. Don't ask me how this is possible, but the new macOS window tiling feature seems to have enabled the DDPM EasyArrange feature, with no way of disabling it.

From there on, fixing the issue was easy: Quit DDPM, and the nasty behavior immediately goes away. Go to Settings, Login Items & Extensions, Open at Login, and remove DDPM, so that it doesn't load on startup. Problem solved. This also explains why most people in this thread didn't encounter the problem the way I did.

Thanks Dialbrain. I was HATING this feature after my last update. I constantly work with multiple windows open and every time I had them exactly how I wanted them and then moved one, I had to go and fix it. How did Apple lose their way? They went from being the company that didn't role out useless features to adding totally pointless and poorly developed features just because. This was a terrible feature to have enabled by default. No value what so ever and not intelligent enough to actually be good for anything.

Not sure of the intent of your comment. Some sort of superior attitude that is generating glee, seems to be on display. Obviously, there is something in the past I am not recalling.

Come on! Don't ya get it? Your handle is "epiphany2022" but you don't remember choosing that?

You must have had ....wait for it... an epiphany!

That's one of my favourite dad jokes.

One of the worst feature ever. I had a hard time finding how to disable it.

I use it every day.

It is a very handy feature with just the "Hold Option key while dragging windows to tile" option left ON. Then I can use it only when needed. For example to automatically set a window neatly to some place or to put two windows side by side etc. No more cumbersome manual dragging and stretching from the sides and corners.

Yes, also I was initially irritated what it was doing. But if that new feature was not enabled by default I might have never noticed it. Even if it were in some "new features" user tip I would probably had missed it.

Is there a command that can be executed in Terminal to disable this automatic resizing? And also is there a documentation that lists this command?

There are many annoying and unwanted settings in today's macos. It is unsustainable to remember and deactivate them each time. Apple has chosen to complicate life of users further by reverting these settings to Apple's choice of default on every update. For these settings, there should be a documented automated way to disable them from terminal. It is such a basic requirement for modern systems.

The only option I have on in Desktop and Dock of Windows section is Close windows when quitting an appliction. All other options are turned off.

I am still having the problem of RootsMagic window is resizing automatically for some unknown reason. If I catch it in time the mouse will go horizontal before it happens. And then it doesn't matter what I do RM window will still resize to a smaller window.

I agree! I've flipped off all the switches in Windows. If I want "windows" I'll go back to my PC! This is the most frustrating thing I've ever seen on a Mac! Why keep stealing my real estate??? COME APPLE!

BTW, Steve Jobs said, "Focus and simplicity...once you get there, you can move mountains." Certainly no "focus" or "simplicity" here and this mountain is crushing us!

Why does disabling the tiling options work for some but not others? I have Sequoia 18.3.2 and Safari 18.3.1. I have restarted and shut down my computer entirely and my documents still automatically fill the entire screen.

Some people have reported that their Dell display software also does this. If you have any display where you installed the bundled software, it might also have it.
