Cannot add AirDrop to Finder sidebar in Sequoia

I noticed that after updating to Sequoia, AirDrop has disappeared from the Finder sidebar. If I try to add it back from the settings, it appears for a fraction of a second, then the checkbox deselects itself again. If I navigate to AirDrop from the Go menu, all appears normal and it works correctly so I am unsure why this is happening

Oh, and just one more thing I forgot to say: the only action I found to solve this temporarily, is to force the finder's restart. Then, I can be able to add the airdrop into finder's favorites.

I hope we can see some update on this issue. Thanks again.

I can say, using 1 M1, 1 M2 and 1 M3 machines each upGraded from Sonoma 14.6.1 to macOS 15.0 Sequoia

It is not a normal behaviour.

The fact it will work in Safe Mode and Not in Normal Mode

Tends to indicate, there must have been or are some serious System Modifications at play

I have this same issue since upgrading to Sequoia on M1 MacBook Pro 14. Airdrop disappears from the Finder sidebar, when re-adding it immediately disappears again.

Force quitting Finder can resolve the issue but it seems to come back later, even after restarting.

Hello my friends,

Please, allow me to share something I discovered.

After trying several actions, such as deleting the "com.apple.finder.plist" file, and restarting the Mac to no avail, I simply made an OS Sequoia boot disk and did a clean install on my Mac. After the boot disk was ready, I erased all the contents of the SSD and did a new installation. Completely. And then, problem solved.

All Finder options can now be customized without problems, including AirDrop.

I hope this solution helps other colleagues.

Thanks everyone.

I think I found the reason of AirDrop not staying on sidebar!

I erased and reset Sequoia and initially AirDrop stayed on sidebar so I started installing apps and adding favorites to the sidebar, I only added "Picture" and my user folder. The next morning AirDrop disappears from the sidebar again!

I uninstalled the last app I put on and there was no change. So I unchecked the 2 favorites I added and, viola, AirDrop stayed on sidebar.

My guess is for some reasons there's a "maximum" amount of favorites on the sidebar with AirDrop added.

Clean install of Sequoia 15.1, and immediately the issues started as described in the original poster. Only thing that corrects it a force quit of Finder. Also a desktop and & dock system setting that I turned on always turns off on a reboot and requires me to reset it.

Spouse just bought a M3 MacBook Air with factory installed Sequoia 15.1. She also is experiencing the identical problems with AirDrop on the Finder sidebar that I, and others have noted here. Force/quit of Finder corrects it, but a reboot results in the same problem.

Just a small update from me - this was fixed for several weeks until I decided to turn on an old iPad running iPad OS 17. I soon noticed that AirDrop had disappeared again and only returned after I turned the iPad off and rebooted the Mac. This pretty much confirms to me that this is some kind of conflict with older devices

Here's another issue which may be similar, or not. I have my fn button set to "show desktop" by setting it in the System Settings/Desktop & Displays/Short Cuts. Makes it easier to work on my MacBook Pro.

However, every time I reboot the MacBook Pro that setting disappears, and I have to reset it again.

Again not exactly the same as the AirDrop issue (which I have), but seems to be similar. Some settings just aren't holding in Sequoia.
