Auto-Correction is changing my words incorrectly after iOS 18 update on iPhone

@Smore95GAGA - TYSM! I just tried your suggestion of resetting the keyboard to its factory default, and so far it seems to be better!

Also, this may not have been totally necessary, but when I went checking other settings, I noticed that my system dictionaries included a whole bunch of other dictionaries that I don’t think I ever selected. So I deselected a bunch of them that I didn’t need, including English UK (I’m in US) and a series of other international versions that appear to be related to my multi-language keyboard selection but are in fact totally different. Makes me think that this issue may be exacerbated by having more than one language setup for the keyboard?

Settings>General>Transfer or Reset iPhone>Reset>Reset Keyboard Dictionary

Clean up dictionaries:

Settings>General>Dictionary

SOLUTION:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary

I saw someone else post this, & it worked!

The only thing is, some phrases you would normally use that are not in the dictionary will be deleted since you are resetting your keyboard to factory/default settings. For example, I use “lmk” & “bc” instead of “let me know” & “because” so it’ll have to get used to me doing that again & may try to autocorrect those words/phrases, but it definitely helped the issue that we all mentioned throughout this thread

Just to reassure anyone else trying this, it doesn’t reset anything else on your phone!

So do you find that using the new bilingual keyboard made autocorrect work acceptably for both languages?

OMG IT WORKED! resetting the keyboard dictionary helped so much as far as I can tell. I can finally type “our” without it changing it to “out”. THANK YOU!!!

Same issue. I had two dictionaries. The restarting did not work, but I deleted one of my dictionaries and then added it again, this time together (Spanish and english) - new feature “bilingual”. Go to settings> General> keyboard> keyboards > edit.

Hi. I manage a large number of mobile devices and just had a user report this issue to me. I figured out the fix on our end, hoping it can resolve your issues. I'm on iOS18.1, my user was on iOS18. Go to Settings, General, Keyboards and Add New Keyboard. Go back again to confirm the keyboard was added. Note: All our settings are ON in the keyboard screen, except One-Handed Keyboard. Languages & Regions: Add Language. Go back in and confirm it was added. Dictionary: tap the language - in my case French - multidictionnaire.... My Primary Language was English, French was added. Go back in and confirm the dictionary is fully loaded. Turn your device off and on(this never hurts). Go into Mail in the native Apple app, on the BOTTOM ON THE LEFT you will see a GLOBE. You need to touch the Globe to switch between keyboards. Before I switched to the French keyboard, I would see the red squiggly line under a french word. Soon as I touched the GLOBE the word SPACE switched to espace(French) and I could type french words without auto correction issues. My user had been having issues on his new device for a few days, with these changes and soon as he switch his keyboard, he was totally fine. Hoping this resolves your issues as I had not seen anyone mention touching the GLOBE in this thread. I remembered the GLOBE from years ago but had not used a multilanguage keyboard in a while.

Same! I had to manually go to settings>keyboards>auto correction OFF 🤦‍♀️I won, but at what cost.? Because now nothing I type incorrectly will fix but at the same time anything that I did type incorrectly would stay the same, resulting to me fixing it on my own. Honestly, whatever. Because i’d rather go back and re-do my own mistake then let apple change “Come to me” to “Coke to me”

Yo I had this exact problem and just fixed it, well made it quite a bit better. Go to settings>general>dictionary and turn off Apple Dictionary. Made my problem maybe 75% better. I logged in to write an answer on one of these forums for the first time ever, please clap.

I think I found a solution! Go to settings, then general, then dictionary, and uncheck “Apple Dictionary.”

Autocorrect is no longer suggesting every typo I’ve ever made! This worked on my new 9th Gen iPad iOS 17.3.1 and iPhone 16 Plus iOS 18.0.1.

I kept auto correct and turned off predictive text and it looks like the issue is gone. 🙏 Thank goodness, that was a major PAIN!

I had the same experience until just now. In Swedish. I realized with the update I hade 2 dictionaries for every keyboard. 2 Swedish, 2 English and two Greek. I disabled the fancy ones. And now it seems normal again. Hope that helps!

I think I was able to fix autocorrect by disabling my second language, Spanish. It seems like the new Iphone operating system is no longer bilingual.
