Sequoia 15 ruined to my Macbook M2 battery life

Hi there,

Is there somebody with the same problem?

After I downloaded the new Sequoia 15 to my Macbook M2 Max(64gb, 2T SSD) my computer fantastic battery time become so bad.

Yesterday charged my Macbook to  80% and I went to bed, while the machine didn't use any program the Macbook battery reduces 73% and this is a totally new thing in this machine.

Two days ago the basic internet using cause total low battery, but before I downloaded Sequoia 15 this kind of work caused max 10-15 % reduce. It so disappointing. The battery time was sooo good! and I always take care for the macbook charging system and the used programs for optimisation.

I'am really sad because it is a spectacular changes and not the good way.

How long ago was the Sequoia upGraded performed ?

Keep the computer pulled into the charger for maybe 1 to 2 days

Depending on how much data was on the drive, it can take some time for All the Data on the drive has been re-indexed

Keeping it plugged in, may help reduce the time and battery power used during this process.

Now avalible Macos 15.4 RC 24E246

Critically, something still hasn't been fixed:

the battery in sleep mode simply drops 5-10% overnight. It's a tin can. I install Sonoma - and the battery does not go away there, 0%. Sequoia 5-10% drop per night. This is a big expense in sleep mode. The graph shows that the mac does not go into sleep mode normally. It urgently needs to be fixed.

I have a stock system, without third-party software.

Is Apple serious? 15.4 and it's not fixed? Finally do something about it.

M1pro 16inch. I had an amazing battery experience on Monterrey, battery stayed 100% forever before slowing dropping. On light weeks, a full week on battery.

Upodated to Sequoia 15.3 a couple days ago, and the battery drains real fast, it scares me.

I did all the usual (battery count is low, battery at 87% capacity, shutdown&wait, wait for reindexing, reinstall OS, turnoff bluetooth&low brightness, etc).

Currently started a ticket with an Apple agent, we're trying/testing stuff but next step might be a battery replacement from my Applecare. Imagine getting a fresh battery and having the same issue (on Sequoia, never on Monterrey).

Yes, it reports 82.7 % Battery Capacity.

Which is just 2.7% above the Rated 80% Capacity before needing the Battery to be serviced

Batteries - Why Lithium-ion? - Apple

Apple Batteries are rated for 1000 Full Battery Cycles and / or 80% Capacity before needing Evaluation or

So, it is IMHO, the issue not necessarily the Upgrade to Sequoia but rather software used on the computer

It may also be affected by the User preference to run multi applications that require a lot of Power from the Battery

One Drive from Microsoft is a good example of a process that is usually Always Running

Hi guys, I have this macbook pro 2020, m1 13". Eversince I got the mac os sequoia, my mac has been heating up terribly and the battery runs down so fast. Today I fully charged it and just left it open although it was asleep and now that I want to work, it's indicating that the battery is low. This sucks. Also while charging it and working on a word document it heated up so bad it felt like I was rendering a 6hr video. I miss big sur

Thank you both so much for the useful information and explanation! @etresoft @ PRP_53,

If I understand correctly what you suggest @ PRP_53, this application: Etrecheck - it shows me which other app is consuming a lot of energy in the background on my mac machine in non-optimized mode?

After I have found out which app or apps are "badly" working, can I send feedback to the app's developer via Etrecheck?

This approach also means that the problem is not in Sequoia 15, instead the cause of the problem is that some 3rd party apps are not uptodate?

Thus, if Sequoia 15 is updated to 15.1 or 15.2, this situation will not be resolved until the 3rd party updates ?
