CarPlay not working with iPhone 16 Pro
I upgraded my iPhone 12 Pro to a 16 Pro, and the new phone will not connect to my 2018 Mazda CX-5 with CarPlay. When I plug it in, it charges but makes no sign of connecting.

I am so disappointed! My new iPhone 16 Pro does not work connect to my Carplay in my Toyota CHR. Had I known this, I would have upgraded to an iPhone 15 Pro instead. :(
Finally it works! My previous iPhone was the 14 Pro Max which used the lightning charging cord. After trying all the fixes found on different sites, I came across a thread that said the charging cord may be the problem. I went to Amazon and purchased a new one (see below) and that worked. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08558B183?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
I also purchased some Lightning to USB C Adapters for my old lightning cables (see below) and tested them out. They also worked. I hope this helps.

After getting support from If you need help with CarPlay - Apple Support, my new iPhone 16 Pro now works with my CarPlay. :)
Same problem here with my 2023 Nissan Altima SV. Has to be something with iOS 18 or iPhone 16 pro max because my brother’s iPhone 15 pro max on iOS 17 works just fine.
I am having the same problem with my 2019 Acura TLX. Got the iPhone 16 pro and got the usb to usb-c Cable but only my audio works. My navigation doesn’t work with my CarPlay and it did with my last phone which was a 14 Pro.
Yes my Mercedes too only has USB-A inputs thus I had to buy the USB-A to USB-C Adapter from the Apple Store.
USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple. Separately -- I went to my internal Mercedes Infotainment center, and to "Systems" and completely reset the infotainment center to its default settings. Using the same cable (data plus charging) that I knew worked earlier for Apple CarPlay, but now with the new USB-A to USB-C adapter attached, and after having rebooted the infotainment system to default setting then attached my new iPhone 16 Pro to the system and it then did recognize the new phone and I was able to proceed to set up the new phone. The only real downside is that one will need to completely set up all the other in-vehicle settings that one wants inside the vehicle but that only took me just a few minutes to re-establish. I hope this works for you.
Mine the same. But I found this and tried, worked!
‘Try settings, general, CarPlay, and delete all vehicles. You may also need to go settings, general, scroll down to reset phone, and click on reset network settings.’
Worth to have a go.
Hi Folks, I Just upgraded from 11 Pro Max to 16 Pro Max same issue with the CarPlay not working . My fix was to remove the phone protection feature on my Hyundai Santa Fe and then enable it again and then connect the 16 pro max with usb A to USB C cable and that fix the problem. Hope this helps . God Bless🙏🏿🙏🏿❤️❤️
If you already have a solid data/charge cable that you are certain was working before in your car with a previous iteration of iPhone, it is likely NOT a USB-C type cable, hence the need to attach an adapter to it so that it will be usable with your new iPhone 16 -- which as you properly note ONLY works with USB-C. Many users are buying the Apple USB-C to Lightening Adapter (USB-C to Lightning Adapter - Apple) because their prior phone used a lightening plug that inserted into their phone, with the other end being a USB-B plug that went into the car via (again) a data/charge cable. Using your old cable, you just need to attach this adapter to the old cable and it should work well with your new iPhone. Many users in this thread report doing that and it works totally okay. I'm one of those users. The only other thing I had to do in my vehicle was I did have to reset my car's internal "infotainment" (i.e. entertainment/audio/visual/etc) system again to default settings and set up the phone again as a new device, and then add back all the other car settings that you want. Hope this helps.
Try this:
Review the if you need help with CarPlay link that I posted earlier.
Can you share the steps you enabled that feature? Can’t seem to find it 😅
I had the same issue with my 2019 Toyota Avalon. I tried some cable adapters (both lighting and USB A) to convert one of the ends of the old cables I had. That failed miserably and didn’t work.
I bought an Anker USB-A A to USB-C cable for about $10 from Walmart. It comes with a cable wrap which is nice in the center console to keep things organized.
The new cable worked right away. CarPlay booted faster than ever before. No issues at all.
I just had the same issue. One thing to check is your usb to usbc cable. I grabbed a few and turns out they weren’t rated for CarPlay. I dug through my cable box, found the Anker set rated for CarPlay and it worked fine.
I had this same problem and doing a "Reset to factory settings" on the car radio is what fixed it for me.
I have three GM vehicles (two 2017 Chevy Cruzes and a 2019 Chevy Traverse) that I had been using with my iPhone XR via CarPlay for years. When I upgraded to an iPhone16 Pro the Traverse and one of the Cruzes worked immediately, but the second Cruze wouldn't recognize the phone via CarPlay no matter what I did. After two days of fiddling I finally did "Reset to factory settings" after which it instantly recognized the new phone.
Have you tried going into Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, and turned it on? That's fixed it for a lot a people. But you might have something in those settings specifically disallowing Music.
