CarPlay not working with iPhone 16 Pro
I upgraded my iPhone 12 Pro to a 16 Pro, and the new phone will not connect to my 2018 Mazda CX-5 with CarPlay. When I plug it in, it charges but makes no sign of connecting.

I am so disappointed! My new iPhone 16 Pro does not work connect to my Carplay in my Toyota CHR. Had I known this, I would have upgraded to an iPhone 15 Pro instead. :(
Have you tried getting a better usb to usbC cable? I see that lots are saying some of the cables aren’t working.
Hurray...it works!!! Opel Customer service helped me out and found the final solution!!! I have an Opel Astra from 2018 which doesn't support cordless Carplay. Nothing worked, tried many different cables, even an wireless adapter but the real solution is in the menu. Connect your Iphone with a cable, select in the dashboard screen of your car the option "Projection", if asked for give admission to connect your Iphone and it will show the Carplay menu on the screen. Then, choose in settings of the Iphone Carplay and the car will be shown in the menu. I am thrilled it finally works. Hope it will work for other cars too.
I’m having the same issue with my Kia Picanto 2018 model. This is the cord I’m using (just purchased from Kmart) and this is the page I get whenever I open Apple CarPlay I have no idea what else to do?
My new iPhone 16 worked perfectly on a newer rental car. Will not work on our 2020 Tundra or 2020 Telluride. Would not be recognized by my iMac. Spent hours trying to figure this out. Used cable that came with the new phone. Used multiple different cables. Spent hours on the phone with Apple and actually scheduled an appointment with Toyota. I had a little epiphany(wife suggested), I tried this little adapter and it’s worked perfectly with my computer and on the car.
I used a USB-C to USB-C cable with a small adapter from USB-C to USB. Seemed like a cheap hack.
****click on the photo to see.
This is not true. It’s the cable
I have a RAV4 and recently upgraded to an iPhone 16 with IOS 18.1.1 and was having the same issue. I tried some of the suggestions here with phone settings but decided to go with a data transfer and charging cord and it worked immediately. I got this one at Walmart for $6 rather than paying ridiculous Apple prices for one. This was in the auto section so it’s obviously an issue. Whatever cord you buy, be sure it doesn’t just charge but also transfers data. That seems to be the key. I’m guessing USB-C cords don’t automatically do both like lightening cords. I wonder how many landfills are polluted with old cords because Apple and other electronic companies want to find ways to make more money by creating new cords and charging a fortune for them. Does Apple claim to be an environmentally friendly company? I hope not.

just get a data capable cord. It does not have to be. Apple just has to be data capable.
This really is a failure of Apple. And they don't give a sh't about it and either the support doesn't know about this issue or they pretend they don't know about this issue.
There is no way you could have known in advance… If the CarPlay implementation in the Toyota CHR is sufficiently old, and though it may have worked with your iPhone 12, there is no assurance that it would have worked with an iPhone 15 Pro either.
Verify with the Toyota service department that no outstanding CarPlay update is available for your vehicle, and then review the owner's manual to confirm you are doing everything correctly to pair the iPhone 16 with your vehicle. What I mentioned above about the lack of multi-link BlueTooth may also be an issue where you cannot have the phone paired to two separate Bluetooth connections in the vehicle.
I have iphone 16 pro and rexton 2024 model car . The android auto just work fine but when i connect my iphone it doesn't work and the old iphone 13 works fine . I have reset the car and iphone but doesn't work and also change my cable and used box cable as well but no response it just charge the iphone nothing else
Bz4x snd iphobe 16 pro max suddenly. Not working, happened with a previous yoyota snd iphone as well. Both companies pointing fingers at eachother (insert spiderman meme here). About to delete previous phone and reinstall this one.
I have a Volkswagen Tiguan (2019) and Jetta (2018) and could not get my iPhone 16 Max Pro to connect. Based on all the suggestions I found online this is what I did to fix it:
I ordered a usb-a to usb-c data transfer cord. Apparently some charging cords only charge and do not transfer data. 🤷🏻♀️
I went into settings on my iPhone and then Content & Privacy restrictions and turned off CarPlay and turned off my iPhone and switched it back on.
I went into my car and deleted all existing phone connection. Then on my iPhone went into my bluetooth settings, located my car connection and hit “forgot this device”.
I then went into settings on my iPhone and then Content & Privacy restrictions and turned on CarPlay and turned off my iPhone and switched it back on.
I then added my iPhone to my car via Bluetooth first and then plugged my phone in with the cord I purchased and it worked.
Okay, I finally figured it out. If you have a wireless connected CarPlay, you have to unpair from car and from phone, DELETE the wireless connection out of your saved networks under settings-wifi-edit delete the car’s network and then re-pair CarPlay the usual way. Took me all day to figure out!
Another data point. The problem with random disconnects and audio issues seems to be worse when the iHeartRadio app is playing. If I close that app and just use Waze for nav, it seems to stay connected.
I have the same issue with my iPhone 16 Pro. My 15 pro worked fine.
I solved the issue!
screen time>content & privacy information >car play (was disabled)
as soon as I enabled it my car prompted to finish setting up car play and everything showed up again.
