Music paused after siri announces a notification.

Ever since I downloaded IOS 18, siri has been pausing my music whenever announcing a notification. As a college student who is constantly listening to music, this is quite frustrating.

I think I found the issue. I had sound recognition enabled and for some reason it pauses media after an announcement is made or after reading a text message. The bug is still present. To fix it, I had to go to

  1. Go to Settings  > Accessibility > Sound Recognition, then turn OFF Sound Recognition.

Once I did that, I would still get the announcement or my texts read but the music would continue playing.

This worked for me! At least for the time being anyway.

I did not have Vocal Shortcuts enabled, but set a fake one up, then turned it off, deleted the shortcut and turned my iPhone 13 Pro iOS 18.0.1 off and on again (not sure if that contributed or not, but might as well be thorough!) and had my partner send me a text after I started a playlist in Apple Music, and the volume ducked low while Siri read it aloud in my AirPods Pro 2, and then the volume went back up to normal, as expected!

I'll update this if the problem returns, but I haven't seen a working solution yet, so figured I'd leave this here and maybe it can help someone else.

I talked to an apple support member, and they recommended a force restart to clear the error. So far this has worked (been only a couple days)

Here are the steps on how to force restart your device. 1. Press and quickly release the volume up button. 2. Press and quickly release the volume down button. 3. Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo. It might take a few seconds or a minute for it to force restart; kindly don't release your hand on the side button.
