Sequoia 15.0 bugs - external hard drives

Sequoia update has caused mounting issues with external hard drives. Ex: had one working and then all of a sudden M3 Max MacBook Pro stops recognizing the device. Now, it won't even find it when it's plugged in. Device works fine on other devices.

Follow-up. Apple was able to help me re-format the SanDisk, which after doing so, the SanDisk did appear on my desktop. We then chose the SanDisk to use for Time Machine auto backups, and this time, Apple had me TURN OFF the "encryption" choice at the time of setting the external up to use for Time Machine.

The external drive has been working for 24 hours, and Apple will follow-up with me tomorrow and then again at a later date.

SanDisk technical support had also suggested it was an encryption error that Apple would need to be notified. All good today! It was ironic that my previous external failed, and the new one failed in the same week but so far so good.

Unfortunately, I learned about this issue all too late. I had attempted to let apple sync my music and realized the company was deleting my files from my computer. I tried to restore everything to no avail and my backup has been corrupted and is inaccessible. Now, trying to restore music with my CDs and my external CDROM drive does not work. Fantastic. Thanks, Apple...

Hello, I’d just like to confirm the mention of “ext4” not being compatible with Sequoia. Would this be for locally connected drives or all drives i.e NAS? The reason I’m bringing this up is that Synology suggests that “EXT4 is for speed, NTFS for easy compatibility with Windows. Forget about the rest.” I have 16 TB of Synology storage running ext4 connected to my M1 MacBook Pro running Sonoma with no issues. Just looking down before I step in it.

I had Raid Time Machine drives that worked fine with Ventura and Sonoma. Once I upgraded they would not mount and actually crashed the computer and forced a restart. Apple Store has been helping me with this issues with no luck. They’ve decided to reinstall Sonoma. Hopefully Apple figures out what’s wrong with Sequioa before I need to upgrade to it for other software reasons.

Adding my voice--I have been having the same problem where disks both will sometimes not mount (doesn't appear in disk utility either), and once they finally do, will not eject (dialog saying the disk is in use by some other program). Apple, please fix this! I'm having to shut down my laptop every time I want to unplug a drive to avoid force ejecting, and it's making me nervous that something is going to get corrupted. This is on my M1 MacBook Pro.

My Time Machine drive got messed up. I think something happened when the the disk was attached and then crashed the computer. Luckily I was able to retrieve my files from a backup on the Time Machine from the week before. Sedona shows the disk but at this point the drive is unsafe to use. I will stick with Sedona until Mac fixes this problem. Nice to know I’m not the only one having these problems.

Running 2023 Studio M2. Things were working great until I "upgraded" to Suckquioa.

Now, my powered Insignia hub isn't recognized. I need a hub because I use multiple flash drives at the same time for my work. More importantly, I also need more because one of the USB ports is being used by my husband's pacemaker monitor. Because my hub isn't recognized any more, that monitor must be plugged into one of the Studio's ports directly.

If this IS a KNOWN issue with Apple, WHY the bloody .... are they not fixing it??? My case isn't just a work thing. It could mean a BIG issue with my husband's heart!
