"Emoji & Symbols" no longer coming up after Sequoia update.

No because I have to admit, that I haven't used an Apple keyboard in like 15 years.

I'm an old point & shoot/drag & drop user that only uses a few basic shortcuts.

This is the layout I see for the USB Logitech keyboards that we use.

To be honest, I'm more inclined to use the menu dropdown than Control + Command + Space to get to Emoji's & Symbol's.

So what we have here is, you' the Language and Keyboard guru of the forum, speaking to the biggest Apple keyboard shortcut dummy of the forum.

Well, I have never used Emoji directly on my Mac (M3). Because of this I have no idea when they disappeared.

However, I use Webex frequently and used emoji for reaction. Maybe this is another emoji I do not know...

But.

After upgrade to Sequoia emoji in Webex disappeared. I can't make any reaction nor insert smile into message. When I press Emoji and symbols there is no any reaction.

Ok. Maybe it is a bug in Webex. However, I tried to see Emoji in Sequoia, but failed.

I pressed Ctr+Cmd+Space, Fn+E or Edit-Emoji & Symbols from menu - no effect.

Oh, yes. There is an effect. The process is started. However, there is no any visible effect.

Of course, I restarted my Mac many times and upgraded it from 15.0 to 15.0.1 as well as upgraded Webex.

Is there any way to check if Emoji exists on my Mac?

Note, on my MacBook with the same versions of OS and Webex I can open emoji by Fn+E and from Webex.

So, something is wrong with iMac.

Edit Emoji & Symbols does not bring up Character Viewer in any app, including Safari, Notes, Mail, etc?

I'm another "me too" on the post Sequoia emoji issue. They work in Messages, but nowhere else. I've rebooted numerous times, used the various Fn/Cmd/control/option-space keys to no avail. In mail, edit-emojis and symbols, does nothing..., maybe. I have my keyboard set to switch between Spanish and English using the fn key. Is it possible that that is shutting down the emoji option? I went to Settings/Press fn to: show emoji & symbols..., yeh, that doesn't do anything either.

As a trial, I just tried emojis on my wife's MacBook Pro 3. I got the same results in her mail -- nothing. I repeated all the steps above. Still no luck. Thoughts?

I thought it was because Im on Beta 15.2, but seems like it is happening to everyone then... Nothing works for me, with or without VPN, Fn+E, double Fn, no even clicking on the keyboard selector. And I have an option to Hide Emoji despite not seeing any anywhere

Jerry9617, Interesting. I assumed a reboot would fix it, and I just posted about how much of a drag that will be. But you're saying even a reboot might not fix this bug. People have been reporting this for as long as Senoma. It's a weird bug that impacts so many, with no straightforward resource (of which I'm aware.) Guess I'll just have to use my shruggie shortcut from here on out.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have tried everything, and cannot get use of the full emoji menu. I have to type in a word for what I want to use and then hit the globe key for a few suggestions. Totally annoying and limiting. 2023 MacBook Pro Sequoia 15.1 that I recently restored to factory settings because of getting locked out for some odd reason. Thank the gods for iCloud.

I have tried EVERYTHING as suggested by these chats and google search. I rebooted the system, I reinstalled MAC OS, I talked to Apple support (escalated to a senior person), I tried a different keyboard,. etc. NOTHING worked.

ONLY on in the Apple Mail program. The emoji function WORKS in the Messages App.

When I do the Control/Command/spacebar, nothing happens (except I see the "Edit" function in the taskbar click).

Any thoughts?

Impossible to show screen shots of this as the edit button just flashes and immediately turns off as I release the Control/Command/Space keys.

My original message has screenshots of the working and not working situations (works in Messages doesn’t in Mail app)

By the way, I have spent hours with Apple Customer service, on my own, including getting help from Genius Bar and a famous Tv/Radio Tech guru. Based on research it is obvious that MANY people have the same issue. Why can’t Apple Engineering look into this and fix it! It is an obvious issue caused by the latest MacOS update!

In addition to this weird emoji issue I also experienced a problem in using CCleaner App (that i have been successfully using for more than 10 years). It no longer worked after the latest OS update on my Mac. I deleted the app and reinstalled and still it wouldn't open.

TODAY

I added a new user in my system (just for testing purpose). After I added this and opened it, miraculously the emoji function worked as expected AND the CCleaner app also worked.

So there is something in my setup that is different and caused these issues. I have no idea hopw to begin to identify the difference.

Can someone help me on this?

Nothing helps. All the same whether I click the menu or use a key combination - the emoji & symbols window does not appear. I can restart even 100 times - still the same thing. Macbook Air 2025 Sequoia 15.4.1. Any idea?

Exactly.

I may compare my iMac with MacBook and know how it must be. I cannot open Emoji on iMac in any know way.

With the last update (Sequoia 15.1), the emoji link (along with all the emojis) now show up on both mail and messages. For me, problem solved. Thanks to the emoji gods and to Apple.
