Can't add TV shows to my iPod nano 4th gen

I have an iPod nano 4th gen that does not want to play TV shows. It also does this to movies (videos) but not photos. Whenever I try to add TV shows it says. "Video cannot be played on iPod". I have downloaded SD versions of TV shows using iTunes on my old Mac, (Mid-2011) I have also checked the video file and it says it will play on iPod (M4V). It just does not work with me, if this helps, I was trying to install episodes of hotel impossible and AFV.
