when using safari to search the web I cannot search for anything beginning with the letters

Why can’t if search for anything beginning with “s” or “g” in Safari on my iPhone 15? If, however, I search for anything beginning other page, delete the search term from the address box on the page that comes up, and insert my initial search term, the relevant page is found. Why do I have to do these extra steps? My connection is excellent and my Safari cache is not full.
