cannot connect to itunes in my ipod touch gen4

I am having a i pod touch gen4. after restoring and updating the i pod i am not able to connect to i tunes. it says " cannot connect to i tunes store". because of that i cant use app store also, does anyone know how to connect in this condition. though i called apple support center, they said they don't know how to handle it.
