How to Fix iPhone 16 Pro Max Camera Focus Issue

I can never get a fully clear picture. Only a small portion of the photo I’m trying to take will be in focus while the rest is blurry. I’ve turned macro lens on and off testing if that’s the issue, but it doesn’t change the problem. It’s been like this since I got it on 9/24.

You’re not understanding how the simulated Depth of Field (DOF) works. When in Portrait mode, tap the down facing arrow. Near the bottom of the screen, change the f/number to a higher numerical value such as f/5.6 or f/8. If you use a small numerical f/number such as f/1.4 or f/2.8 the DOF is too shallow for both subjects to be in focus.

There is no focus, it’s blurry period that’s the point thousands of people are making.

you can take a photo in any zoom capacity, the outcome is the same, blurry regardless of locking the fixed focus.

zero sharpness and an embarrassing camera on an iPhone 16 model.

we shouldn’t be fiddling with macros adjustments or changing setting to try & take a decent photo.

Samsung is wiping the floor with apples camera capabilities!

This isn’t Apple Support. No one here is an advisor and can put images into anyone’s hands. This is a user to user community and always has been. 😀

It’s mostly me too’s and no proof. This thread has gone from macro doesn’t work, to it can’t take a sharp photo at any zoom to now you’re claiming it is not sharp when it’s approximately 1:1 on a screen.

Again, I’ll disagree. I’ll take some images into Lightroom Classic, magnify the pixels 1:1 and do some screenshots. They’ll be sharp, too.

What kind of proof do you expect? To clarify: The pictures I posted were taken at the normal distance necessary to photograph the whole page. Nothing special.

We use iPhones as they are supposed to be used - very simple. Previous models produced sharp photos under all normal circumstances without following complicated considerations. Now the latest and greatest flagship model developed by the biggest and most expensive smartphone producer does not.

This is my eighth iPhone since the 3G and for the first time the camera is worse than before. And this is unacceptable.

Mr Jeff -- "advisor" (Apple Advisors on the phone) "mostly me too’s and no proof" and where "this thread has gone," again "disagree"

adding a "me too" is good for statistics -- how widespread the problem is -- adding proof takes time and effort

I see some legitimate concerns and enough proof already posted -- wasappletilltoday's screenshot is pretty convincing to the complaint:

I have no interest in spending my time running tests and posting a tutorial how I got to my conclusion for fellow users or Advisors or even Engineers -- let the company hire their own consultants if they need that expertise

but on macOS, one could just drag the image into a Safari window and click on the area they want to view 1:1 100% Actual Pixels and that area should pop right up in Actual Pixels 1:1

I really appreciate your effort, but it is not that complicated:

A4 is 21 x 29,7 cm. I opened the 1x camera und photographed the whole page like a thousand times before at about 25 cm distance.

I understand that the minimum focus distance has changed due to a larger sensor. But honestly I don’t care. I expect that my iPhone takes sharp photos by either switching to the 0.5x ultra wide angle camera for macro sooner or getting proper focus with the 1x.

Hello guys, I hace the sane issue… I only had iphone 6 s plus, 7 plus and now I got my all new 16 pro max.. and I can tell you this without any doubt: my old 7 plus camera wipes the floor with the 16 pro max.. I’m not a professional photographer but I’ve always taken pictures all the time with my previous phone.. I’m SO dissapointed, you can’t imagine… Im from Argentina and I don’t know about you guys but I had to work my As$ off to get the money to buy this piece of junk with a 2004 camera on it… so I dont know what will happen in the future…
