Having Wi-Fi connection issues after updating iPhone 16 Pro Max to iOS 18.0.1

Anyone else having connection issues ever since updating to IOS 18.0.1? My Wifi and phone service is really slow now. After being on the phone with T-Mobile for 2 hours, we figured out its that update and Apple problem. Can't watch youtube and loads really slow on websites. It says no connection even though I'm connected to both very fast wifi and 5G. My other devices work fine on the wifi. I'm tried eveything to fix it. Soft reset, network reset, etc. To no avail.

I updated my iPhone 14pro as well as an old iPhone 6s Plus recently. currently both are on IOS 18.0.1. Neither has VPNs on them and they used to connect fine with the office WIFI before but now they don't connect at all. Funny thing is they connect to the home wifi. my partner at the office has the same iPhone 14pro and refuses to do a software update on this phone ad his wifi connection within the office, and those of my colleagues works absolutely fine. Just my phones don't connect to the wifi at the office. I called up the ISP provider and they recognise its challenge from Apple and they have had to deal with some extremely frustrated customers but have not been able too assist. I used to love Apple before and use laptops and computers in the office but this recent software update has just got me super frustrated with Apple and Apple products as whole. Every follow-up update does not seem to resolve anything. I have tried every solution provided with most of the forums where these discussions are happening but nothing. Still refuses to connect in the office.

Mine was the same way. I called Apple. They fixed it. Make sure you don’t have any VPNs. Settings.. general.. VPN & Device Management… VPN… if you see one there. Click the “i” icon and delete it. That worked for me. He said 9 out of 10 times that’s the issue when he gets those calls. If that doesn’t work. Call Apple Customer Service. +1 (800) 275-2273

Yes! I have websites failing to load. No VPN installed. Waze using offline maps as can’t connect when there is normally 5G.

Also a wifi issue in schools as unable to load trust certificate for Exa Networks which things is schools use. Exa have said this is only being replicated in new phones that have been set up transferring data from old phone and running 18.0.1 New 16 pros set up from scratch can install certificate to login to network. It has been logged.

I disagree. I need VPN to connect to work, is that also "completely unnecessary"?

VPN have legitimate reasons and are not just used "for protection". Circumventing geoblocked content for example, adblocks through a VPN provider..

Or accessing work or university networks when at home

However, many of the free VPN services that advertise "protection" etc are, as you said, more scam than solution

Thanks much for the advice. I like VPNs bc I believe it cuts down on junk email and from scammers getting my address. Also I feel keenly the loss of privacy as I recall a time when we had some. When I have time I may call Apple.

VPN's are completely unnecessary on iPhone and cause issues like what the Author of this thread described. They also give you a sense of security which is for lack of a better word, shameful and akin to a scam. They are tracking everything you do on your iPhone and in most cases, selling what you do to anyone willing to pay for it.

Don't fall for the false sense of security. Your iPhone protects you better than any VPN possibly could.

Read all the comments and will try to cal Apple later.

My issue is slightly different from you guys - iPhone 15 pro max ‘s wifi connection ok at downstairs; not upstairs.

So, I did either recycle iPhone or “Forget This Network” in order to re-select and WiFi connection OK. It is irritated me; but, it is able to get around to get the WiFi connection back.

My Wi-Fi configuration are Cox Panasonic gateway (PW8 which has 3 WiFi bands - 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz) This 6Ghz with Apple IOS 18.0.1 is questionable. I check iPhone WiFi connection in the Cox router/modem and it is read as 6Ghz. And, iPhone itself shows “Private WiFi Address “ when upstairs. Then , coming downstairs it is read as “Private WiFi Address” fixed and “WiFi 6E” automatic. I was recommended by Apple Chat Live to wait for senior advisers call - so far no calls yet. Going to call them later!

I have same issue. And please try disconnect and connect again and try to speed test quickly. You will get normal speed but after few second speed dramatically downing to 2-5 mbps. Every time disconnect (or reset WiFi or change the channel from wifi interface) and connect again speed will be normal just for few seconds. You can see dramatically downing when you are testing. My all other devices working with normal speed (Mac, other phone, other pc’s) and I’m using 2.4 ghz modem.

We have the same problem. Many colleagues are using older iPhones than iPhone16. We all have problems after update to iOS18. Wi-Fi connects fine at work, but when you come home, we have to restart the device, then Wi-Fi works again. No matter of private MAC. When we don't go to work, the Wi-Fi is switching normal, from home, to coffee, to gym. After joining Wi-Fi at work the cycle repeats. Only thing that works is to restart... We all be glad when apple fix this
