The iPad User Guide provides details:

Connect iPad to a display with a cable - Apple Support

As your iPad has a USB-C port, you may require an Adapter appropriate for your intended external monitor. You might instead consider using a USB-C hub that incorporates an appropriate HDMI or VGA Port. Apple offers these adapters for HDMI and VGA connections:

  • USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter

  • USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter

For USB-C hubs, perhaps consider Kingston, Anker, Hyperdrive and Satechi - although there are many others from which to choose. A Google Search for USB-C Hubs compatible with iPad will find a number of articles and recommendations.  Be sure to select a hub that incorporates the required interface for your monitor.
