Notes has a triple-column view and suddenly it's turned off

A Notes window has three elements:

  1. A sidebar with Folder view
  2. A list of notes filtered by search and/or sidebar selection
  3. An inline edit window for the note you selected in column 2

I switched off #3 and cannot get it back! Where is it in the menus?

I don't mind having notes open in new windows but I like the convenience of viewing a note side by side with a browser.

By chance, I have fixed it!

I've opened a (random) note in a new window. I have kept it opened. Then, I've opened the "Quick Notes" panel, and I've tried to open a (random) "quick note".

Then, I wasn't able to open quick notes, because there was a bug that totally hide the "Quick Notes" panel. I only saw the "folders" panel!

So, I have quit Notes app, reopened it, and the right "content" panel finally reappeared!

Hope it will help...

The editing pane won't show up no way, no how.

I never use thumbnails, I'm a list guy.

This is all I can do. PLUS, the window keeps resizing -- smaller! Watch what happens before (no editing pane, window about half a screen wide) ...

and after I toggle on the sidebar view:

The window has shrunk.

You've got to admit that's goofy.

Rebooting hasn't helped. Can I reinstall Notes?

To clarify cba85's solution, I had to open Safari, highlight some text, right-click and choose "New Quick Note". Then in Notes, the Quick Note option on the left side appeared at the top. I clicked on that and then right-clicked in the space on the right and chose "New Quick Note". This caused the window to collapse. If I double-clicked on Quick Note again it would reopen and the new note would be gone. So I right-clicked and chose "New Quick Note" again and it collapsed and then I quit Notes and when I re-opened it, the three-column layout was back.

WTF Apple.

Thank you so much for taking the time to figure this out. I could not find an answer to restore my editing pane!

Your solution, which is totally random, WORKED.

For others: The weirder thing is nothing appeared at first in my quick notes. It said there were things in there, but it was blank below the date titles. I stretched the second column out and waited. Eventually the images showed up. Failing them loading, you could add a quick note and then use the same technique. Open the new one, then quit the app and restart. The editing pane will suddenly appear!

Honestly, I don't even know how these came to be. I can see that the same weird image of my first quick note also appears in the lower left corner of my laptop screen. I'm too old for these newfangled dealbobs.

This must be a bug introduced via Sequoia 15.0. I see that there's an update for Sequoia 15.1, so I will update my software later today.
