Find My Friends is extremely slow to update locations

I noticed with pretty regular frequency that Find My Friends is extremely slow to update locations. My partner and I use it to help make sure each other is safe and almost every time I try to use it it is about six minutes behind or more. Even if I am at that time on the phone with her, so I know she has service, Find My Friends is lagging.

Can someone please explain this? Can Apple attempt to make this work better? It’s probably one of the worst functioning Apps I’ve used in a long time.
