Latest Mac Mini with old 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display

I have a 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display that comes with three USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire 800 port, one Thunderbolt port, and one Gigabit Ethernet port.

I'm planning to buy the newly released Mac mini but not sure if this display going to work with it, and if so then what type of dongle/connector I would need. Is there anyone who connected their old Thunderbolt Display with Mac mini and what type of port they are using with what connectors?

To connect your Thunderbolt Display to the new Mac Mini, you can use a Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter. Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter: This adapter will allow you to connect your Thunderbolt Display to the Mac Mini's USB-C ports.
  2. Thunderbolt Cable: If you don't already have one, you'll also need a Thunderbolt 2 cable to connect the display to the adapter.

Recent versions of macOS are reportedly picky about display transmission errors - as in, they don't want to see any, and will reduce resolution or cut off signal to a display when errors are reported. You might find that a built-in cable which worked "well enough" with an old Mac is too "flaky" for use with a new Mac. But you can try hooking up that monitor using the built-in cable first.
