I would expect as much
even if it was only for charging that would mean that the data pins would not be connected (which i doubt apple would ship) so it would not harm your iphone by any means and would charge it even if it could not be used for sync , so if it was me then I would just try it out
my ipad pro with usb-c has only ever been charged by my facebook oculus quest 2 vr headset charger with usb-c connector
