Can't reconnect Sony bluetooth headset to iPad after "Forget This Device" used.

Can't reconnect Sony bluetooth headset to iPad after "Forget This Device" used. When attempting to pair the devices, the iPad dose not find the headset. When using the "Forget This Device" option, the headset was removed from the Devices list. Headset is a Sony WH-1000XM4, iPad is an iPad Air 2 using iPadOS 15.8.3. All the comments I've seen say to just put devices into pairing mode and the iPad will discover the headset, but this isn't so, the iPad won't rediscover the headset. Thanks for any assistance anyone can offer.
